The App Store Served its 10 Billionth App Early this Morning

The App Store just reached a major new milestone, as it served its 10 billionth app earlier today. For the occasion, the lucky iOS user who downloaded the 10 billionth app from the store will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card. The milestone was hit about 5 hours ago, around 4 AM Central Time. The App Store hit the 1 billion mark in April 2009, less than a year after its launch. Less than two years later, the App Store served ten times more apps to iOS-powered users hungry for games, utilities, and eBooks.

The winner of the contest has not been announced just yet, but Apple should contact him/her within the next couple of days. Congrats to the lucky winner, and congrats to Apple for such an impressive achievement! As for the next milestone, given that Apple currently delivers about 30~33 million apps a day, the App Store should hit the 20 billion apps served mark right around Christmas 2011.
