As you must know by now, a disastrous earthquake of magnitude 8.9, as well as subsequent tsunamis, destroyed entire towns in Japan and in the Pacific. To help, Apple just opened a new donation page on iTunes, to allow iTunes users to make a contribution to the Japanese relief fund, managed by the American Red Cross. Donations range from $5 to $200, and all the proceeds will go directly to the American Red Cross – Apple will not take any percentage of the profits from these donations whatsoever.
Click the Donate button under the amount you wish to donate. 100% of your donation will go to the American Red Cross. Because iTunes is not sharing your personal information with the American Red Cross, the Red Cross is unable to further acknowledge your donation. You will receive an email receipt from the iTunes Store which will serve as your only acknowledgement of your donation. The donation will also appear on your credit card statement as a transaction with the iTunes Store. iTunes Store credit cannot be used to make a donation. Your gift to the American Red Cross will support our disaster relief efforts to help those affected by the earthquake in Japan and tsunami throughout the Pacific. Your support will enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to victims of all disasters. On those rare occasions when donations exceed American Red Cross expenses for a specific disaster, contributions are used to prepare for and serve victims of other disasters.
