Flipboard for iPad Receives Major Update

Flipboard fans, rejoice, as the iPad app received a major update earlier today. While the previous version of the app was already one of the best iPad apps out there, the new version of the app, dubbed version 1.5, adds a slew of new features – needless to say, this update rocks.

One of the biggest improvements of Flipboard 1.5 is in how you navigate, as the app now offers a new way to quickly search, browse, and favorite all the social content you’re interested in: a red ribbon, located in the upper right corner of the screen, pulls out a new guide that lets you search for any person, topic or blog, or just browse the a slew of new sections now arranged by category. In other words, you won’t need to add a section first to view it.

Fans of Tumblr, rejoice, as Tumblr for iPhone received a major update earlier today. While the previous version of the app helped Tumblr users stay connected to the microblogging platform, it fell short on many levels: it was slow, complicated to use, and simply way too limited.

Google Swiffy: Run Flash Animations on iPhone and iPad [VIDEO]

Earlier today, Google announced the launch of a new tool called Swiffy, able to convert Flash animations to a more iOS-friendly format, HTML5. The move is surprising to say the least, as Google and Apple are not exactly the friends they used to be, and Google has gradually become closer to Adobe over the last year or so.

Either way, Swiffy is another proof that Flash is on its way out. While the tool is still fairly limited, it is already able to convert a slew of Flash files to HTML5, and yields impressive results, especially on iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad.

iOS 5: Over-the-Air iOS Updates via WiFi and 3G

Once launched, iOS 5 should be the first version of iOS able to work without any cables – well, except the power cord. We knew that iOS 5 beta 2 already offered WiFi syncing on the Mac, but according to new findings, iOS 5 should also be able to update itself over the air, using Wi-Fi or 3G.

The feature is not working yet, but the beta 2 of iOS 5 released late last week shows signs that the capability will soon make its debut, possibly via a third beta.
