Square-Enix fans, rejoice, as Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
is finally coming to iOS devices, with the iPhone first, and the iPad later this summer. The game was announced over a year ago during the E3 show, but since then, Square-Enix has been surprisingly silent about the launch date of this new Final Fantasy
While most blogs believed that the game would be released back in September 2010, Square-Enix took almost an extra year to give final touches to the game.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
is set in a fictional medieval realm named Ivalice. The game’s story follows Ramza Beoulve, a highborn cadet who finds himself involved with an intricate military conflict known as the Lion War, where two opposing factions are coveting the throne of the kingdom. As the story progresses, Ramza and his allies discover a sinister plot behind the war.
Note that the gameplay of Final Fantasy Tactics
differs from traditional Final Fantasy
episodes. Instead of a generic battle screen, where the player’s characters are on one side and the enemies on the other, encounters take place on a three-dimensional, isometric field. Characters move on a battlefield composed of tiles, movement and action ranges are directly related to the character’s statistics and job class. In other words, getting rid of your enemies will require quite a bit of thinking, as the game is all about strategy.
Square Enix has done it again. The game, originally developed for the PlayStation, is as good as the original, and does not suffer from the glitches that plagued the PSP version. At $15.99, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
is not exactly cheap, but note that the PSX and PSP versions were priced over $40 when released. More details about the game here
