“ingenious software design” and “lively, fluent prose...” (Kirkus Reviews)
* March is Read Aloud Month! Come in and hear what Tristan the Tarsier has to say about becoming The Last Character in the Story! *
A lyrical, all-ages fairy tale created by Story Elves...
Written in the style of Hans Christian Andersen, The Waking Prince is an original tale with circumstances both unique and troubling. What does a prince do when he discovers his kiss holds no magic for the spellbound princess? And, what should he do about the spellbound dog, the hexed farmer and the bewitched cows languishing in the lane?
Prince Jeremy is born into a kingdom unlike those described before. He cannot, therefore, rely on tales from the past!
A story dimension never before seen by human eyes...
There are 70 fully illustrated pages of story. For each pair of pages, though, a turn of the iPad produces an elven Couplet, a surprising and delightful story dimension that reveals the fuller scenes and thorny situations in which the characters find themselves. Couplets leave little doubt that the kingdom exists, somewhere over a distant hill.
How are stories made?
Elves delight in talking of such things, and before and after the story you will hear about elven customs and the craft of storytelling.
* Among elves, The Last Character in the Story is the one who performs the story aloud! The Story Elves workshop narrator speaks enthusiastically to readers about stepping into the story, into this honored role.
• The Story of the Story unwinds the tale of the making of The Waking Prince. In 11 chapters, this tale speaks of elven rules ignored by a stubborn writer elf, a flaw found by Joble, the editor elf, and a tense meeting in the forest to determine the fate of the story.
* The Next Story peeks at private journal entries regarding a new character and a possible new story. To show several journals at once, The Story Elves expand the number of storytelling dimensions to four.
This app is about the joy of stories—reading them and creating them. Readers can enjoy an original story, enjoy hearing about the story’s making and leave the app better equipped to make a story of their own.
