The App Store is getting close to serve its 10 billionth app, and for the occasion, Apple will offer a $10,000 gift card to the person who downloads an app right after the 999,999,999th app is delivered.
Last Saturday, we predicted that the store would hit the 10 billion mark by Friday night or Saturday morning, but with a little under 100 million downloads to go at the moment this article was written, the average number of apps served by Apple on a daily basis increased over the last couple of days, from 30 million, to 33 million. In other words, the winner could be picked earlier than initially expected.
At this very second, exactly 99,581,241 apps need to be downloaded for the counter to hit 10 billion. Assuming that the average number of apps served everyday remains constant, the gift card should be awarded on Friday afternoon, around 3PM Central Time – so make sure to download an app around that time.
There is nothing to do to enter the contest, except being the one who downloads the 10 billionth app from the store. The contest is not limited to the U.S., as entrants only need to be at least “13 years of age or older at time of entry, and a legal resident of a participating App Store country.”

Apple also offers an entry form for entrants who do not own iOS-powered devices, or who do not wish to download apps. The form is available
