10 Billion Apps – Winner of the $10,000 iTunes Gift Card Hung Up on Apple!

Everyday, the iOSnoops team collectively receives at least ten annoying phone calls from telemarketers, trying to convince us to switch insurance providers, sign up for new credit cards, or refinance our homes – like everyone else, we simply tell them we’re not interested and hang up.

So when the winner of the 10 billionth app contest – Gail Davis from UK – received a phone call to tell her she won a $10,000 iTunes gift card, like us, she politely replied “thank you very much, I’m not interested,” and hung up the phone.

Real Life Fruit Ninjas: Hilarious!

We love Fruit Ninja and Fruit Ninja HD here at iOSnoops, but nowhere near as much as these guys! A couple of blokes who seem to be huge fans of the popular iOS app decided to try to play the game for real – that is, with real fruits and real knives.

While the real-life fruit ninjas perform honorably on the video, it is clear that playing the game in real-life is incredibly more difficult than playing the iOS game! These shirtless fruit ninjas still manage to slice through several pieces of fruit though, including a large melon, using two very sharp knives.

iTunes and Safari to Merge into a Single App [RUMOR]

A new rumor about the possibility to see iTunes and Safari become a single application emerged earlier today, as the folks at Three Guys and a Podcast allegedly heard that Apple is overhauling both applications in order to merge them together.

The move is expected to turn Safari+iTunes into a major multimedia hub, able to ingest and playback a slew of content types, from web pages, to movies, music and apps. The move is also expected to mark the rebirth of Lala, a music service purchased by Apple in late 2009.

The new version of Safari+iTunes would heavily rely on the technology built by Lala, as most – if not all – of the user’s content would be moved to the cloud-based service Apple is currently building. Users would then be able to browse and access their content the same way they browse websites – after all, this wouldn’t be much of a stretch for the company, as iTunes exclusively relies on web-based mechanisms such as HTTP to communicate with Apple’s servers.

Next Generation iPod Touch to Offer 3D Screen [RUMOR]

Macotakara, the Japanese Apple-focused blog that recently made the headlines by showing pictures and a video of an upcoming iPad 2 case, heard from “a company which provides LCD screens to Apple” that the Cupertino-based company is about to include a 3D LCD panel in the next generation of the iPod touch.

The display is expected to use the same technology as “the 3D display found in the Nintendo 3DS,” a technology that doesn’t require the use of special 3D glasses.

While the presence of a 3D screen in the next generation iPod touch would be an unexpected surprise, Apple has been investigating the technology for a while, as over the last four years, Apple filed several patents applications for 3D-related technologies, including an application for “systems and methods for adjusting a display based on the user’s position.”

Steve Jobs to Take Medical Leave

Despite a successful liver transplant back in 2009, Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ health does not seem to have greatly improved: the mastermind behind most Apple products is about to take another leave of absence, according to CNN. In a letter sent to all Apple employees, Jobs announced he is taking a leave of absence from the company because of a “medical condition.”

Team,

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.

Steve

As usual, Apple COO Tim Cook will take control of the company while Jobs recovers.
