djay for iPad – Now Optimized for iPad 2

djay, the iOS app designed to transform your iPad into a full–fledged DJ system, was updated earlier today. The new version of the app, dubbed version 1.2.0, now offers exclusive functionalities that take advantage of the extra processing power offered by the iPad 2, and the new A5 processor. Thanks to the update, djay now features now lets you change the tempo of your songs without changing their pitch, and offers even higher precision audio analysis:
  • Key Lock / Time-Stretching: change the tempo of a song without affecting its pitch (requires iPad 2)
  • High-Precision audio analysis: improves syncing, BPM detection, beat-grid, and waveform precision (requires iPad 2, enable in Settings > Advanced)
  • Loop / Cue snapping: auto-aligned to closest snare, base drum etc. (requires iPad 2)
The app also offers a couple of new, non-iPad 2 specific features:
  • Improved playback of recordings
  • Various minor improvements for all iPad models
Just like its predecessor, the app seamlessly integrates with your iPod library, giving you direct access to all your favorite tracks and playlists. The realistic touchscreen interface offers a mixing experience as good, if not better than the real deal. The app allows you to perform live, record mixes while on the go, or even mix your favorite playlist from your iPod library automatically. djay will set you back $19.99 – not exactly a cheap app, but still vastly cheaper than the equipment it replaces.
