JailbreakMe 3.0 Fix to be Released Today

JailbreakMe 3.0, Comex’s new jailbreak specifically designed for the iPad 2, was released a couple of days ago, and while the tool proved to be extremely successful, some bugs were only identified after the launch. For instance, several iOS users are experiencing issues with Apple’s Camera Connection Kit, as it does not seem to function properly once the jailbreak is applied. Other users experienced issues while trying to install some Cydia packages. There is no need to panic though, as Comex is already working on a fix, expected to be made available via Cydia later today.

JailbreakMe 3.0 was released on July 6th, and is able to jailbreak most iOS devices running iOS 4.3.x, by using a PDF exploit. The jailbreak is extremely simply to use, as users only need to point Safari to jailbreakme.com with their iPhone, iPod touch or iPad to jailbreak their device, in a matter of minutes. The following devices are supported by the tool:
  • iPad: iOS 4.3.x
  • iPad 2: iOS 4.3.3
  • iPhone 3GS: iOS 4.3.x
  • iPhone 4 (AT&T): 4.3.x
  • iPhone 4 (Verizon): 4.2.x
  • iPod touch (third and fourth generation): 4.3.x
Before you even try to jailbreak your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, make sure to fully backup your device (including your SHSH blobs via a tool such as TinyUmbrella), just in case. Note that iPad 2 3G users will not be able to revert to an older version of iOS anymore: On a side note, if you are worried about your device security after the jailbreak, note that Cydia also offers a tool called ‘PDF Patcher 2′ that patches the JailbreakMe vulnerability after the jailbreak. As always, even though jailbreaking is considered legal, keep in mind that Apple sees it as a warranty-voiding act, so do it at your own risk. Please do not use jailbreaks to install copyrighted/paid content you haven’t purchased yourself.
