AV System Designer

Jeremy Birch
Using AV industry-standard formulas, Integrators, Consultants, and end users alike can quickly get baseline AV parameters for a room.

No other iOS app provides these essential calculations in a clean, easy-to-understand interface.

Using little more than a room's dimensions, AV System Designer figures out:

---------------------VIDEO ---------------------

MINIMUM IMAGE SIZE
Based on AVIXA's 4/6/8 Rule for the following viewing applications:
\t• Passive (video only),
\t• Basic (spreadsheets, websites, etc.), or
\t• Analytical (medical, architectural, etc.)

MAXIMUM IMAGE SIZE
Sometimes the customer just wants to know how big an image they can fit in their room! Starting with the ceiling height, AV System Designer subtracts 4 ft. (clearance above floor) and another 6 in. (clearance below ceiling).

MAXIMUM IMAGE CENTERLINE
Ever been in a room where you're too close to the screen? Avoid doing this to your customers by knowing exactly how high the centerline of your screen can be before exceeding that critical 30° viewing angle for anyone in the room.

---------------------AUDIO ---------------------

SPACING OF CEILING SPEAKERS
When you can't sit down at your computer to determine speaker spacing using manufacturer-specific software, AV System Designer provides conservative estimates by assuming a 90° coverage pattern. Results are shown side-by-side for the 3 most common speaker layout densities:
\t• Edge-to-Edge: Lowest recommended density, where coverage patterns from adjacent speakers just barely touch at the edges.
\t• Minimum Overlap: Typical density
\t• Center-to-Center: Highest density, where the edge of each speaker's coverage pattern reaches the center of the next one.

AMP POWER REQUIRED
Don't just guess how much amplifier power is required for your project. Know for sure using AV System Designer's safe estimate of 15W taps per speaker and 20% headroom for each of the 3 layout densities above.

---------------------A NOTE FROM THE "DEVELOPER"
Like many other AV Engineers, I had developed my own spreadsheet over the years to help me with these very calculations because nothing was out there that made this simple. For so long I wished I could come out with this kind of clean & simple mobile app to make these tricky calculations available to everyone, but I didn't know how to code.

Then my high school son Matthew decided he wanted to learn how to make iOS apps! So we formed a company called "Two Trees" and teamed up to bring my vision to life. The app is connected to my name because Matthew isn't 18 yet, but all app sales go to him...as they should.

Our hope is that you find this app insanely useful as you help people communicate effectively through the aid of well-designed AV systems.
Our verdict: Good
  • + AV System Designer is a highly rated app (5-star).
