‘Stress Free with Dr Elaine Smith’ takes a psychological approach for eliminating daily stress using meditation, relaxation techniques that come from current research.


We did not want to add to your stress with this app, and appreciate you may not have 20 minutes twice a day to learn to meditate and chose to concentrate on specific tools that can be readily used to effectively combat stress and that fit into your daily life. This App can be used on your daily commute to work, or used for 5 minutes at your desk.

Elaine is a psychologist with her own successful practice, and has used methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), meditation and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction in the design of this stress reduction App. Our App takes full advantage of the iPad interface using HD videos and touch control mindfulness exercises.

Our ‘Stress Free with Dr Elaine Smith’ App contains a set of activities which together help you to:

Change how you think about stressful situations
Manage your experience of stress
Induce a Relaxation Response

How we think about a situation has a great affect on whether we experience it as stressful or not. By changing the way you think, you can change your physical response to stress. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) you are taught to change unhelpful stressful thoughts to more helpful thoughts. Having this ability to reframe your thought processes is a great way to reduce stressful situations.

Our ‘Stress Free with Dr Elaine Smith’ App uses a Mindfulness Exercise with psycho-acoustically arranged music. The music has been psycho-acoustically arranged by a classically trained musician, to a certain tempo, to encourage the heart and breathing to adjust downward to the tempo of the music. This type of arrangement is thought to affect physiological functioning, slowing the heart and pulse rate, lowering blood pressure and decreasing the levels of stress hormones in the body.

You are also taught to Induce a Relaxation Response using a specially designed interactive Mindfulness exercise. This exercise takes full advantage of the iPad interface by allowing you to engage in a mindfulness exercise using touchscreen controls.

Used together, these activities give you the tools you need to positively change your experience of stress. With practice, you will develop a more healthy way of Responding and not just Reacting to stress, resulting in a stress free life.

In addition to having a successful practice, Elaine regularly contributes to newspaper articles, magazines and Television.
