From the charity behind the award-winning Teach Your Monster to Read comes a brand new game that gets kids reading for fun! Take your monster to explore a magical village full of fascinating facts and spellbinding stories.

The latest educational game from Teach Your Monster, ‘Reading for Fun’ is designed with experts from Roehampton University to get kids reading more, boost their confidence and inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Make your own monster with hundreds of items, make friends with colourful characters and collect over 70 brilliant free ebooks (from Usborne, Okido, Otter-Barry and more) to add to your monster’s bookshelf.
There are hours and hours of fun, whilst you read along the way.

Every interaction involves reading, from following signposts and checking the village noticeboard to reading aloud with librarian Goldspear. The books you discover will help you bake delicious cakes, make the villagers laugh and even find treasure!

It’s up to you to choose what to explore and when. But hurry, the villagers need your help. Your monster must use all its wisdom, skills and bravery to stop the book-eating goblin causing chaos in the village and eating all the books!

The game encourages children of all ages to read for pleasure, helping them build empathy by putting themselves in different characters’ shoes. The game is perfect to play at home and school, alongside Teach Your Monster to Read 1,2,3 or on its own.

Reading for Fun has been created by Teach Your Monster, which is part of The Usborne Foundation. The Usborne Foundation is a charity founded by children’s publisher, Peter Usborne MBE.

Harnessing research, design and technology, Teach Your Monster is a non-profit that creates playful media to address issues from literacy to health.

• Boost children’s confidence with reading.
• Develop children’s empathy, as they put themselves in different characters’ shoes and develop an understanding of the wider world.
• Improve children’s understanding of reading for different purposes (such as recipes, signposts and instructions).
• Positive screen time for children, as they read for fun.

Reading for pleasure is proven to transform children’s literacy skills, academic performance and chances of living a happy and successful life. The pedagogy of Reading for Pleasure within this game has been developed in close collaboration with educational experts from Roehampton University.

What's new in version 1.1.0
Over one million children’s books have been read in the game! A huge thanks to the hundreds of thousands of children who’ve played already... King Peter salutes you!
We’ve been beavering away and have improved things based on your feedback. Here’s what’s in this update:
• Your Adventure - You can now see where you are in the story and how many days you've played.
• Brand new ‘book talk’ from the villagers whilst you’re reading selected books in the library.
• A couple more recipes to the bakery recipe book. Mmmmm fruit cake!
• A bunch of quality-of-life improvements: you’re now able to move villagers that cover words in books, swipe book pages a little easier and tap villagers to make speech bubbles disappear.
We want to make this game as great as it can possibly be, so please leave a review and let us know what you think; we read every one!
