The Light Watch

Shout Out Technologies Inc
Weather is in the DNA of every photograph taken outside. Most photographers spend a great deal of time planning around the weather. Not just for their own personal comfort, but to try and predict what the light will be like when on location. It can be a time-consuming task to keep an eye on the different conditions across multiple shooting locations and trying to make the best choice. Your choice ultimately shapes the outcome of the investment in effort needed to get to that location, at the desired time, and hopefully under interesting conditions. Many photographers have learned to roll with what is given them, and when successful are able to craft amazing images by being observant and creative. Others rely on the luck of the right place at the right time. We created The Light Watch to provide another tool to photographers to help them plan a shot, around the weather, increasing the likelihood of coming away with something special.

You do not need to be a meteorologist to use The Light Watch. In fact, we created 30+ unique weather templates that you can pull from. All you need to do is tell The Light Watch what you want, combining one or more template into a shooting location and let The Light Watch monitor for when the conditions line up to what you are looking for…and when they do; we will let you know!

Use basic templates for cloudy to clear conditions, fresh precipitation to dry, or pull from advanced templates like Rainbows, Crepuscular Rays, Fog, Above the Clouds, and many more. In fact, we have combined meteorology with earth/sun geometry to pull multiple weather forecasts from the shooting location; including the point you place the weather, and the position of the sun to help predict when certain shots can become reality.

Weather nut? If so, create your own Custom Templates and apply them to your palette of possibilities. Each template allows you to define varying degrees of matching from what “Ideal” looks like, down to “OK”. With four different levels, you can dial in the threshold to use before being notified.

On any given shot, you can vary the degree of conditions required before being notified. As an example, you may indicate that you need “Ideal” cloud light conditions, but “Fresh Snow” is optional. In this way, you will be notified to go when the ideal cloud light conditions are forecasted, but the weight for the shooting location will be elevated when “Fresh Snow” is also forecasted. Once you get a shot; tighten up the conditions for that location, or change them all together, ensuring you get a unique experience every time you go.

The Light Watch comes with a suite of tools allowing you to analyze the relevant forecast around your shot. We’ve provided topographic models showing the position of clouds, sun and terrain so you can visualize what is predicted. Further, the weather panel provides you with a summary of condition probability for your upcoming shoot, as well as a set of weather condition graphs covering your location so you can plan for your own comfort and safety. We’ve also provided both map and table views for you to use based on your navigation preference.
