ubAlert | Disaster Alert Network

Pacific Disaster Center
[ This app is no longer available for download ]

Near-real-time disaster reporting and alerting capabilities, for people on the go.

PLEASE NOTE: The ubAlert app is free to download. Premium service for push notifications is available at a cost of $0.99 per month (or local currency equivalent) via In App Purchase, and is charged to your iTunes Account. Subscription renews automatically each month unless auto-renew is turned off within the app settings. No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed while the subscription period is active.

The goal of this app is to increase public safety by allowing citizens to report incidents, and combined with data gathered from other reliable sources, to provide alert notifications back to the public as soon as the information is reliably available. We intend to create the world's largest, most reliable, world-wide, all-hazard (natural and man-made) disaster alerting network by combining data from global institutions and data providers with user reported crowd-sourcing.

We have created a global emergency warning platform that validates the reliability of the reported content, and then immediately alerts those who may be impacted, depending on the severity and interests.

After the recent mega disasters (Indian Ocean Tsunami, Japan Earthquake/Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, etc.) claiming tens of thousands of lives, or the man-made fiascos (SARs scare, Columbine shootings, Terrorist Attacks, Mumbai crisis, etc.) unnecessarily claiming more innocent lives than they had to, you’d think someone would have figured out how to alert us for the next one!

But NO! Why, you ask?

- Disaster or emergency information is just not available (not enough reporters or instruments on the ground);
- Governments and institutions are reluctant to alert citizens (some fear liability, some fear panic, and others are irresponsible);
- The problem is hard: how do you know who and when to alert in a global village?

So, you say, "But I can go to two dozen sites and sign up for email alerts". Yes, good luck finding the sites, sorting through hundreds of alerts a day to see which one you care about, and then forward the relevant ones to those you care about in time.

ubAlert gives POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Imagine if an ordinary citizen could report only what she knows or sees, and have all who are interested instantly be informed. Suddenly, an initial report of a shooting in a neighborhood becomes an alert to all the neighbors, even ones they don’t know yet. And imagine if there was a site that collected not only citizens’ alerts, but also organizations around the world, and filtered and sent each alert according to the user's interests and potential impact! Wow, that will truly save lives!
That's the plan of ubAlert.

We intend to build a global social network that will save lives by empowering ordinary citizens. Yes, we do our best to get the right data from the right organizations, globally. But we cannot win this battle without YOU!

This is how heroes are born from ordinary citizens who help others!
